Christmas with Cornils, a traditional concert featuring holiday music from throughout the centuries is coming to the Merrill Auditorium!
The concert is led by Ray Cornils; Municipal Organist for the City of Portland (a post which he has held since 1990) and faculty member at University of Southern Maine (where he teaches organ, harpsichord, and advanced keyboard skills.) Ray has a Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree in organ performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He has also studied under renowned musicians Robert Reeves, Fenner Douglas, William Porter, Yuko Hayashi, and Gillian Weir and harpsichord with William Porter, Lenora McCroskey, and Lisa Crawford (continuo). He’s taught music at Boston’s Tufts University and at the Brookline Music School in Massachusetts. He’s been the director of the United Parish in Brookline and of the Braintree Choral Society. He was also the harpsichordist and organist of the award winning New England Baroque Ensemble. He’s performed all over the US and internationally (in Germany, Russia, France, Spain, Ecuador and New Zealand) and also with the Portland Symphony Orchestra. The concert is presented by the Kotzschmar Organ; an organization that puts on many concerts featuring renowned organists and guest artists from around the world.
